About venue
Ala-Too Cinema is an active movie venue and one of the city’s notable cultural landmarks. Opened in 1938, it became the first large purpose-built cinema in Kyrgyzstan. The building stands at the intersection of Chuy Avenue and Erkindik Boulevard, and its façade is decorated with colourful ceramic panels created in 1963. Today, the venue hosts regular screenings of Kyrgyz and international films, official premieres, international festival programmes, national cinema weeks and special screenings. Some events also include opening ceremonies, film presentations and meetings between audiences and members of the film industry. The Ala-Too Cinema events programme is especially relevant for visitors interested in new Kyrgyz releases, foreign cinema and cultural film projects. The cinema is located in the central part of the city, close to Ala-Too Square and Chyngyz Aitmatov Park. Visitors should check the current schedule, age rating and ticket information on the official website before attending.
