JONY
JONY is the stage name of Javid Huseynli, an artist who has turned emotionally charged pop lyrics into one of the most recognizable voices on the contemporary Russian-language music scene. He began singing in a school choir as a child and already regarded music as a possible profession during his teenage years. Nevertheless, he initially studied international business while recording cover songs and sharing them on social media. Those early recordings became his first bridge from a private passion to a professional career.
A decisive turning point came after he met ELMAN and joined the RAAVA Music creative collective. Early tracks such as “Pustoy stakan,” “Friendzone,” and “Zvezda” gradually built his audience, while “Alleya” established the signature style that would define his breakthrough period: expressive vocals, confessional lyrics, restrained beats, and melodic elements influenced by Eastern musical traditions. The collaborations “Bez tebya ya ne ya” with HammAli & Navai and the solo hit “Kometa” soon followed. The latter topped Apple Music’s annual ranking and received the MUZ-TV award for Best Song.
JONY’s musical style is difficult to place within a single category. His work combines pop, R&B, hip-hop rhythms, acoustic instrumentation, and melodic patterns associated with Eastern songwriting. The voice, however, nearly always remains at the centre of the arrangement. His high and emotionally open delivery can move from a restrained verse to a powerful, dramatic chorus. The artist has repeatedly emphasized that he does not want to be limited by genre boundaries, an idea reflected in the title of one of his major albums.
His debut full-length release, “Spisok tvoikh mysley,” collected many of the songs that shaped his early popularity. The EP “Nebesnye rozy” continued his exploration of romantic pop, while “Ne ishchite vo mne zhanry” broadened his musical palette and demonstrated a willingness to experiment with different tempos, arrangements, and vocal approaches. The fifteen-track album included collaborations with HammAli, Navai, ANNA ASTI, TLK, and Erika Lundmoen.
Collaborations have played an important role in JONY’s artistic development. “Lilii” with MOT was recognized as Collaboration of the Year at the ZHARA Music Awards, while “Kak lyubov tvoyu ponyat?” with ANNA ASTI achieved strong chart results. “Kamin,” recorded with EMIN, reached listeners far beyond the artists’ established audiences. Its creation also illustrates JONY’s songwriting process: the music appeared quickly, but the track remained unfinished until he realized that it required a second voice. He later worked with Arash on a Russian-language reinterpretation of the well-known song “Boro Boro.”
JONY’s live performances are built around vocal expression and emotional connection rather than a simple reproduction of studio recordings. His songs can be adapted to several formats, ranging from sparse acoustic interpretations to expansive arrangements with a full band. This flexibility allows familiar material to retain its melodic identity while gaining additional dynamics and dramatic structure. Listeners often respond to the directness of his lyrics: love, separation, loneliness, and hope are expressed in accessible language that creates little distance between the performer and the audience.
His recognition has extended beyond streaming charts. JONY has received the Singer of the Year title at the ZHARA Music Awards, appeared among the winners of Forbes’ “30 Under 30” ranking, won the second season of The Masked Singer, and later became a mentor on The Voice Kids. The album “Ryadom” marked another stage in his career, presenting a more intimate and introspective sound. Its nine tracks combine pop, R&B, acoustic music, and indie influences, while the album’s ideas were expanded through a related visual art project. In this way, JONY continues to develop from a creator of viral hits into an artist capable of transforming personal experiences into a coherent musical world.
